Studio Marina Hulzenga

a spatial design and art studio

Specializing in exhibit and installation design, Studio Marina Hulzenga translates narrative and knowledge into a variety of immersive spaces through storytelling; inviting others to experience the celebration of histories, listen to the land and its people, and constantly engage the philosophical, conceptual, and social dialogues of our spatial surroundings. Absorbed in collecting and research as a means to creativity, the studio's work focuses on uncovering details and connections that challenge our spatial narratives. In both designing for clients or self-initiated projects, the studio values in depth research, being guided by process and activating conversation.

ARCHIVE OF HAPPENINGS FROM PRESENT TO PAST: all project exhibition residency award

Edmonton Living Rooms (ELR)
3rd iteration / digital exhibit

Location: Edmonton, AB, Canada
Client: Edmonton Heritage Council
In collaboration with: Multicultural Health Brokers Co-op, Azkaa Rahman, Sticks & Stones

Reimagining the design of the Edmonton Living Rooms exhibit to now be featured as a digital exhibit on the Edmonton City as Museum Project (ECAMP) website platform. This involved translating the physical into a virtual experience, while honouring the deep heart stories offered by all participating communities.

Edmonton Living Rooms is the culmination of a series of gatherings and conversations engaging newcomer Canadians in story sharing to honour their presence and experiences in the unfolding story of lands and peoples. In this new digital iteration three new themes were introduced, including Food, Love & Resilience – chosen by community members as relevant for today.
