Studio Marina Hulzenga

a spatial design and art studio

︎

Designing spatial experiences that connect and inspire change. Specializing in exhibit and installation design, we translate narrative and knowledge into a variety of immersive spaces through storytelling; inviting others to experience the celebration of histories, listen to the land and its people, and constantly engage the philosophical, conceptual, and social dialogues of our spatial surroundings. Absorbed in collecting and research as a means to creativity, our work focuses on uncovering details and connections that challenge our spatial narratives. In both designing for clients or self-initiated projects, we value in depth research, being guided by process and activating conversations.

The Canadian Wilderness Artist Residency was a unique and immersive artistic experience that took place on the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City. For three and a half weeks myself, nine other artists and two guides embarked on a canoeing odyssey in the Canadian north, exploring this territories’ natural and cultural histories and stories through the lens of art.
For 17 days we paddled the Yukon River, camping on its banks and creating the most incredible artistic experience; collecting much inspiration, building creative relationships, collaborating on many on-site projects and pieces, and learning the many lessons the River graciously had to share.
